Governor Samual Shapiro Memorabilia Lot
This is an interesting lot. Direct from the office of Samuel Shapiro (1907-1987), these items were in the possession of one of Shapiro's secretaries. Shapiro was governor of Illinois from 1968-1969. Within this lot of 11 items, you will find personal items from when he was Lt. Governor of Illinois (1961-1968), as well as commemorative pieces from when he served as Governor. Listed below are the various items in this lot:
1). A plaque from the Kankakee Federation of Labor AFL-CIO given to him in 1977 for his 10th Annual Citizen's Award.
2). An original Johnson Lee Painting signed "Governor and Mrs. Samuel H. Shapiro by Johnson Lee March 31, 1978" NOTE: Johnson Lee is renown for his art of finger painting.
3). A lighter with the initials S.H.S.
4). Another Lighter with the Inscriptions: Nov. 13, 1965 Dedication Open House on one side, Hon. S.H. Shapiro Lt. Governor of Illinois, on another side, Midwest Distribution Center on the third side and lastly Walker on the forth side.
5). 2 ball point pens that say Samuel Shapiro Lt. Governor.
6). a small pocket magnifying glass that says: George McSwain Speaker Third House 1968 25th Anniversary
7). An interesting Paperback Book entitled: U.S. Riot Commission Report. Report of the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders. On the cover page is written: 3/8/68 To Sam: Who has known the problems and worked as team-mate these many years to change the cause of race relations for equality. signed ???
8) a Gov. S.H. Shapiro Gold Painted Commemorative Shovel used at the opening of Interstate 80.
9) An autograph of Everett Dirksen U.S. Senate
